“I WOULD KILL my husband if five people showed up a day early.” Sasha Kincaid settled into a bar stool at the kitchen counter and trained deep brown eyes on Lisa. “I think you’re handling the disruption with aplomb.”

The woman had no idea just how much aplomb—whatever that was, exactly—Lisa was demonstrating. “I’m just glad you made it in before the snow,” Lisa said. “And delighted that Mr. Kincaid decided to bring the whole family.”

Okay, delighted might be pushing it. But, so far, Sasha and David Kincaid and their three daughters, had been warm and classy and extremely apologetic for arriving unannounced and with more people than had been expected.

“Still, you’re being quite gracious.” Sasha folded her arms and leaned forward, her arresting, dark looks mesmerizing Lisa. “I’d planned to stay in Asheville and shop with the girls while Dave came over here, but the weather was getting so ugly and our cell phones didn’t work in the mountains. We didn’t want to get separated or stranded.”

“It’s no problem, Mrs. Kincaid,” Lisa assured her.

“Please, I just invaded your house with three kids. You’ll have to call me Sasha.”

Lisa poured the hot water into the cups she’d lined up for five hot chocolates, and glanced up at her guest. “Your daughters are beautiful.” They were all carbon copies of their exotic-looking mother, although they all wore their hair down, while Sasha’s was slicked back to accentuate her striking cheekbones and wide eyes. “I always wanted a girl.”

“Until they started rolling their eyes and hitting me with ‘whatevers,’ so did I.” Sasha laughed lightly, then lifted one perfectly arched eyebrow. “Perhaps now that you’ve remarried, you can get that little girl.”

Lisa splashed some hot water over the rim of a cup. “Maybe.”

“Careful, doll.” Clay blew into the kitchen, sliding a cordless phone on the counter as he seized a dish towel to blot her spill. “Don’t burn yourself.”

In one smooth move, he wiped the water, then pulled Lisa into a far-too-familiar hug. “We’re in luck,” he announced with a wide grin. “Pizza Man is still delivering.” He looked at Sasha. “Not exactly the Christmas dinner my wife had planned, but—”

Lisa blinked at him, startled by the “my wife” and the nearness of him. She covered her reaction as quickly as she could. “Pizza?”

“My girls love pizza,” Sasha told them, looking from one to the other. She tilted her head and gave them a sly smile. “You two seem very happy. How long have you been married?”

“Not very,” Lisa said. “About five—”

“Weeks,” Clay finished quickly.

Lisa smiled up at him, fingering the diamond wedding band she’d remembered to put on when the Kincaids arrived. “It just seems like five minutes, doesn’t it?”

He laughed and cuddled her closer. “Time flies when you’re this much in love.”

Lisa almost choked, but Sasha let out a soft sigh. “I remember when Dave and I were first married. We couldn’t stand to be in different rooms.”

“Speaking of rooms…” David Kincaid’s booming voice suddenly filled the kitchen, along with his six-foot-four frame and shock of prematurely gray hair.
